Maroof qualified as a lawyer in Pakistan and has over twelve years industry experience in commercial advisory and dispute resolution. He is a Registered Foreign Lawyer in England and Wales.
Maroof graduated with a Distinction in Master of Laws in International Energy Law and Policy from the Centre for Energy, Petroleum and Mineral Law and Policy, University of Dundee. He focused on International Law of Natural Resources; Project Finance, EU Competition law and clean energy transition in Europe. Maroof's dissertation in 2021 was on legal and policy development on nuclear power under the European Union law.
He has expertise in advocacy, research, legal advice, in-depth legal analysis, writing briefs and reviews, drafting contracts, advising on commercial transaction issues.
Maroof has been involved in many energy sector cases, representing independent energy producers in relation to changes in tax laws, and protection under the stabilisation clauses within the power purchase agreements and electricity market reforms. He has also represented clients in relation to public officers misuse of authority.
Maroof understands the mechanisms that apply across the area of energy law through his experience and qualifications in energy law and policy. His passion and expertise in international energy law has led him to continue to expand his knowledge both academically and professionally, publishing papers and supporting clients in matters which continue to interest him and grow his expertise.
